My Name is Unique and So Am I

Hi there! My name is Alex and I'm a student here at

Oakwood High School. Today, I'm going to introduce myself, talk about my abilities and hobbies, and give you a glimpse into who I really am. So get ready, because this is going to be one interesting ride!

In my free time, you'll usually find me hanging out with my friends. We love just grabbing food together at our favorite diners or hitting up the local boba shop for some tasty drinks. I'm definitely a social person and I get my energy from being around others. I can be a bit of a class clown at times when I'm feeling goofy and energetic. Don't worry though, I know when it's time to be serious and buckle down for tests and projects too!

My Name is Raymond and I'm Proud to Introduce Myself Hi there! My name is Raymond Zhang and I'm a 16-year-old high school student. I was born and raised right here in Toronto, Canada to immigrant parents from China. I'm an only child and come from a pretty close-knit family. In this essay, I'll tell you a bit about my abilities, interests, hobbies and future goals.

Let me start by talking about some of my academic abilities and interests. I've always been a strong student, particularly when it comes to STEM subjects like math, physics, chemistry and computer science. I find the logic and problem-solving aspects of these disciplines really intriguing. Math has been my strongest subject from a young age - I just seem to have a knack for calculations, algebra, geometry and other mathematical concepts. I was even accelerated a grade in math starting in 7th grade.

In terms of sciences, I really enjoy the experimental aspects of physics and chemistry labs. There's something so satisfying about designing an experiment, testing a hypothesis and analyzing the data. I'm currently taking AP Physics and AP Chemistry and I'm thinking of pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering after high school. The idea of designing and building machines and new technologies is endlessly fascinating to me.

Speaking of technology, I'm also a huge computer nerd. I taught myself coding starting around age 12, first learning Python and then branching into other languages like Java, C++ and JavaScript. I love the creativity and logic puzzles involved in coding. For my Grade 10 computer science project, I built a basic game app and port scanner tool. Just this past summer, I did an internship at a local software company and got to work on some real enterprise cloud applications, which was an amazing experience.

Aside from STEM subjects, I'm also very interested in business, economics and entrepreneurship. I've been really inspired by learning about innovators and business leaders who disrupted industries and created world-changing products and services. I'm currently taking an entrepreneurship course which

has taught me a ton about business planning, finance, marketing and general business acumen. My dream is to one day start my own technology company, perhaps developing AI solutions or the next big consumer app.

Of course, it's not all work and no play for me! I have a ton of hobbies and interests outside of academics too. One of my biggest passions is basketball. I've been playing since I was a little kid and I'm a starting guard on my high school varsity team. There's nothing quite like the adrenaline rush of driving hard to the hoop or nailing a three-pointer to win a big game. Basketball has taught me so much about teamwork, perseverance and maintaining a competitive mindset. I love being part of a team and working towards a common goal with my teammates. When I'm not shooting hoops, I also really enjoy reading, especially science fiction and fantasy novels. There's just something so imaginative and transporting about getting lost in rich other-worldly settings with fascinating characters, technologies and plotlines. Some of my favorite book series include The Lord of the Rings, The Culture series by Iain M. Banks, and pretty much anything by Isaac Asimov or Arthur C. Clarke. I'm definitely that guy who reads ahead of the class for English Lit!

I'm also a huge movie buff and aspiring amateur filmmaker. In my free time, I love watching all kinds of films - sci-fi flicks, thought-provoking dramas, hilarious comedies, you name it. I think cinema is such a powerful art form for telling stories, exploring the human condition and sparking your imagination. Over the past couple of years, I've started becoming really interested in the process of filmmaking as well. I enjoy

screenwriting, shooting video on my DSLR, editing footage and even experimenting with special effects. My dream is to one day write and direct my own feature film, maybe an epic sci-fi blockbuster!

Lastly, I should mention that I'm really passionate about environmental sustainability and taking action against climate change. I'm the co-president of my school's environmental club where we organize tree planting, park clean-ups, recycling drives and other green initiatives in the community. I also volunteer for a local non-profit that installs solar panels for low-income families. Climate change is such a huge threat facing my generation, so I feel it's crucial to raise awareness and take concrete steps to reduce our environmental impact before it's too late. I try my best to minimize waste, limit my carbon footprint and convince others to adopt more eco-friendly lifestyles.

So that's me in a nutshell - a passionate math/science geek who loves coding and wants to be an entrepreneur or engineer when I grow up. But I'm also a huge basketball fan, avid reader, amateur filmmaker and passionate environmentalist who cares about protecting the planet.
