One possible version:

James Peebles won the 2019 Nobel Prize for physics for his theoretical discoveries in physical cosmology, which has become the basis of people’s understanding of the universe.

Two main factors attributed to James Peebles’s success. First is his consistent dedication to his research. He developed his theoretical framework in the mid-1960s, and his constant efforts enriched the field of research which eventually led to his winning the Nobel Prize. The second factor is his team spirit. As he put it, he grew with his team and he got new ideas along with group working.

As an old saying goes, one goes fast while a group goes far. This news report reflects the significance of group working, or team spirit. Tough problems in science research or in our work often come to light through a discussion by team members. Also, teamwork helps create a favorable environment where new discoveries and innovations are often generated.

听力原文 Text 1

M: Do you know Matt? He is in your class.

W: Of course. In fact, he was the first person I got to know in my class. I still remember the look on his face when he arrived late on the first day of school. Text 2

W: Stanley, John and I are going to the baseball game tomorrow. Are you going with us? M: Thanks for asking, Jane, but I’ll have to attend a club meeting.

Text 3

W: I’d like a room for two, please. M: For how many nights? W: We’ll stay for three nights.

M: Two people for three nights. Right. I’ll give you Room 5608.

Text 4

M: We’ve got to leave now if we are to catch the 2:15 train.

W: Sorry I can’t. I’ve go to make this important call with the client. Let’s take the next train an hour later.

M: OK, but we’ll be pressed for time when we get there.

Text 5

M: Don’t forget your cousin’s graduation party tomorrow. W: No. It’ll be five-thirty, right? M: Yes, though it’s a bit too early.

W: It’s perfect time and Friday is the perfect day. That gives us Saturday to clean up.

Text 6

W: Hello, Mr Brown. I would like to make a complaint about my room. When I showered there is no hot water at all, and the guests staying next door are too noisy.

M: I will have somebody check out the water heater in the room and ask the doorkeeper to talk to the guests in the next room.

W: Good, and while you are at it, I would really appreciate it if you could talk to the maid. Yesterday she didn’t even make up the bed. M: Oh, I’m sorry about it.

Text 7

M: I feel rough today. I don’t know what’s wrong with me.

W: You’re probably coming down with something. There’s a bug going around at the moment. M: I don’t often get sick.

W: Well, the weather has been very cold and rainy recently. I wouldn’t be surprised if you’ve caught a cold, or even the flu.

M: I drink lots of orange juice. I heard vitamin C helps build up a resistance to catching a cold. As they say, ‘an apple a day keeps the doctor away’. At least I hope so!

W: Here, let me check. Yes, your forehead is burning hot. You must be running a fever.

Text 8

W: What kind of things do you get up to on campus in your free time?

M: I play a lot of sports. Football and basketball mostly. We have some great indoor basketball courts. Sometimes the university invites guest lecturers to come and speak at our campus. That can be very interesting. W: Do you have any clubs?

M: Oh yes. Lots. I’m a member of the English Club actually and I’m involved with the student radio I help to write and broadcast the English programmes. We also organize some events or campus like English speaking competitions and things like that. W: I really like dancing. Is there any opportunity for that?

M: I couldn’t say for sure, but I would have thought there was. The students here like to keep busy.

W: It sounds like there isn’t much time left for study!

M: Well, like I said, there are some great facilities here for studying. The new language laboratories, over there, will be opening next semester. W: Hopefully I’ll get to use them.

Text 9

W: I say, David. You’ve got a new table lamp. It’s beautiful!

M: Yes, but I paid a fortune for it. W: I bet you did.

M: I was joking. I made it myself. It cost next to nothing. W: Are you kidding?

M: No, honestly. It’s an old whisky bottle. It’s quite attractive, isn’t it? I’d got this bottle and thought it was a shame to throw it out. So I thought I’ll make it into a lamp. W: Do you think you could make me one, too? M: Certainly. It would be a cheap present.

W: Thank you very much. I’ll look forward to a new bedside lamp.

M: The only thing is I don’t have another bottle of whisky. How about buying me one, and I’ll empty it for you? That’ ll make the job much more interesting. W: Oh really!

Text 10

It is said that lately after a truck carrying liquid chocolate overturned, it blocked a highway in Poland as it covered six lanes with 12 tons of chocolate. The truck driver went to hospital with a broken arm, but no one else was hurt in the freak accident. A policeman even said that oil stains are easier and quicker to remove than smeared chocolate, but people were able to clear the road using warm pressured water.

By the way, there are many different kinds of chocolate in the world. For example, there is white, milk or dark chocolate. Chocolate is a processed food made from cocoa that originates from the Americas. What kind of chocolate do you like? That concludes today's programme. Thank you for being with us and goodbye until next time.
