Course Description This course is a compulsory course for the students majored in political science, economy and management, which provides an unique perspective to understand the social economic relationships and their developing trends and provides students with an insight into the essence of different economic systems and thus enable them to analyze and reflect upon the real economic issues.
Teaching Objectives On completion of the course, the students will be able to:
1. Gain a systematic and comprehensive knowledge of the origin, nature, importance,
historical development, research methods of the science of political economy. 2. Understand the characteristics and operating patterns of the basic different
economic systems in the world.
3. Develop the abilities in analyzing and solving the practical economic problems in
the real world.
Course Requirements and Grading The course grade is based on the following scheme:
Class attendance, assignments, participation, includes instructor’s evaluation of
preparedness/quality 20% Midterm Exam 20% Final Exam 60%
No special make-up exams are offered for students missing either midterm for any
reason
Students are held responsible for knowing about announcements made in class (such
as postponements in dates for exams and handing out of homework assignments).

No student passing the comprehensive final exam will fail the course, regardless of
average.
Class Attendance, Preparation & Participation
Class attendance is an important part of the academic process, and you are expected to attend classes regularly and to manage your schedule in order to meet the demands of this course. If you are absent, you will be responsible for arranging makeup work to be completed prior to the absence or immediately upon return to class at the instructor’s discretion. As per the student handbook, reasonable documentation or verification of claims regarding absences may be requested.
