正确答案:Holidays- What do you do when you have a holiday? As I am a student now, I will go back to my hometown and keep company with my grandmother. Sometimes I will go travelling with my classmates.- Why are holidays important to you?I think holidays give me a break from the study in university, so I can relax myself and do things I am interested in. Holidays are also important because these are the time when I can stay with my family.- If you could take a holiday anywhere in the world, where would you go? Why?I have dreamed of spending a holiday along the beach in a tropical island for a long time. Because boundless ocean and restless wave can always give me inner peace. And I like trying all kinds of water sports there.- What do people usually do during holidays in your town?In my town, people usually go travelling during holidays, especially couples with children; they want to take their children to visit other cities or countries to broaden their visions.Music- Do you like music? Why or why not?I like music because it is a good company to me when I am walking, running or just sitting there and doing nothing. It can make me feel at ease.- What kind of music do you listen to? Why?I like country music because I think the lyrics tell real stories about life and the rhythm of the music is very relaxing. It is also a good choice to listen to when I am jogging.- Has the music that you listen to changed since you were young?Yes, of course. When I was in middle school, I liked listening to pop music, especially those sang by famous pop stars or bands. But now, I’d like to listen to much softer music such as light music, which can make me calm down.- Do you think older and younger generations prefer different types of music?Yes, I think so. For example, my parents’ generation likes to listen to what we call ‘red song’ or patriotic song, but very few young people like listening to it I think this is related to the environment one grew up in.

正确答案:Describe a museum that you have visited. You should say:when you visited the museumwhat you can see and do therehow you felt after going there and explain why you enjoy visiting this museum.I have visited many museums in different cities but I enjoy visiting the Guangdong Museum in Guangzhou. I went to the museum two years ago while visiting the city. Visiting the museum was not in our tour plan and yet we went there as it was prominently in front of us. I went there with two of my friends and one cousin who were my tour partners. After we got the free tickets, we entered into the museum and the colossal facade of the museum building mesmerised us. It looks like a splendid jewel box. At that time I had a feeling that our time would worth the visitAfter we entered inside the museum, we found that the place is even larger than we initially thought it would be. There were 6 floors in the museum and the inside architecture reminded us of the hollowed-out ivory ball. We could see the top of the building from the ground floor. People from different age groups and countries were closely observing the museum. Taking photo was prohibited and yet I found that several visitors were sometimes lured to take some hidden snaps especially when they saw the dinosaur fossil! As the first floor was under the ground, we went to the second floor directly. It gave us the impression of visiting a theatre or art gallery rather than a museum, as there was a Multimedia Room where we can learn the overview about the museum. We came to know that some of the arts were so valuable that one can buy an island by selling it! Then we moved to the third floor. There were three temporary exhibition halls and three permanent halls, including the exhibition of Chaozhou Woodcarving Art, Duan Inkstone and Calligraphy. There are some art of famous artists and sculptures from different areas. We had visited the whole museum as much as possible and spent almost the whole day. We were so enthralled to visit the place that we literally forgot to have our lunch. The overall experience was fantastic and I learned so many things in a few hours. As soon as I left the place, I planned to revisit it someday.

3. Discussion topics: Museums in general- Would you like to visit museums? Why or why not?- What type of museum is popular in your country?- Do you think museums should offer free admission to everyone? The importance and development of Museums- What do you think of the importance of museums in history?- What’s the difference between the museums nowadays and in the past?- How do you think of the heritage of a country?

正确答案:Museums in general- Would you like to visit museums? Why or why not?As I mention just now, I usually go to museums in different cities and I’d like to visit museums more often. I still remember the first time I went to museums was at my age of 9. I felt so excited as I saw so many antique and interesting relics which I never saw before. Undoubtedly visiting museums can broaden one’s horizons. Besides, appreciating master’s work is beneficial to our aesthetic taste. So I strongly believe that visiting museums is one of the best educational experiences in our life.- What

type of museum is popular in your country? As we all know, China has a really important and abundant culture with a long history of 5,000 years, so there are numerous museums throughout the country. Archaeological and folklore museums are the most common kinds and those are visited by the majority of people. Apart from these, biographical, ethnographic and historic museums are also really common in our country. Furthermore, there are art museums and galleries and some other that are about industry, science and technology.- Do you think museums should offer free admission to everyone? It is a quite controversial questioa But I stand by free admission policy as museums should be free community resources. For one thing, the mainly purpose of museums is to provide an educational and cultural experience to visitors. And it’s museums’ responsibility to make sure their offerings are accessible to all. For another, I don’t think museums are for-profit entertainment because there are support mechanisms such as government grant programmes for the art, private donations and so on.The importance and development of Museums- What do you think of the importance of museums in history?I think museums are of great importance and constitute an integral part of a country’s history. As it is known, these constructions provide information about culture and heritage; in other words, museums keep history alive. To be more precise, museums include artifacts and different objects from the past and by placing them there, people are reassured that the items they see provide clear and accurate information about the history, rather than reading books and magazines in which most of the details are subjective and theoretical- What’s the difference between the museums nowadays and in the past?Anyone who pays a visit to museums could say that nowadays museums are more beautiful, modern, have a rich collection, and convenient to visit than in the past In the past, only a few people had access to them but these days they are open spaces for public knowledge. Furthermore, much attention is given to the maintenance of the museums now than the past and most of the museums are renovated not only for their preservation but also to attract more public interest- How do you think of the heritage of a country?I think a heritage of a nation isn’t determined by only one thing. Monuments, sculptures and temples are essential and they are representative examples as far as heritage is concerned. History composes an important part as well, by informing people about the achievements and failures of a territory. Last but not least, museums which we were talking about earlier couldn’t be missing from this list, not only for all the important aspects they have but also because they are connected with the beauty and grandeur of a country.
