My Dream Vacation Spot: Dali, China

Hi there! My name is Lucy and I'm 10 years old. Today I want to tell you all about my absolute dream vacation destination – the amazing city of Dali in Yunnan Province, China. Dali is hands down the coolest place I've ever been and I'm going to explain why you simply have to visit too!

First off, Dali has the neatest old town that makes you feel like you've traveled back in time. The Ancient City of Dali is over 1,000 years old with its gray brick houses, winding cobblestone alleys, and red-tiled roofs. As you walk around, you'll see women in beautiful traditional Chinese dresses and men carrying baskets of produce and snacks to sell at the markets.

Speaking of markets, the ones in Dali are out of this world! My favorite was the Foreigner Street Night Market. It's packed with stalls selling literally everything you can imagine – clothes, jewelry, artwork, toys, snacks, and more snacks! I just loved watching the ladies make fresh sugar figures, candied strawberries, and other sweet treats right in front of you. And don't even get me started on the amazing aromas coming from the street food stalls with their sizzling meats and veggies!

Dali has tons of incredible attractions too. One of the highlights was walking along the old city walls and going up into the watchtowers. From up there, you get awesome views overlooking the terracotta rooftops, the mountains, and Erhai Lake which is this massive blue lake that Dali sits right next to. The scenery was just breathtaking.

Then there are the Three Pagodas which are these

ginormous ancient pagodas rising up from the fields just outside the city. When the sun hits them just right, they seem to glow golden. My dad kept trying to get me to stop making pagoda jokes but I just couldn't resist – they were two-good to pass up! But my absolute favorite Dali site was the Butterfly Spring. It's this magical park filled with bright flowers, walking trails, and a beautiful blue-green pool fed by natural springs. The water was so crystal clear you could see billions of tiny fish swimming around. And if that wasn't cool enough, the whole place was swarming with hundreds of vibrantly colored butterflies! I've never seen so many in one place. It felt like being in a fairy tale. Dali has amazing nature and countryside surrounding it too. One day we took a boat tour across Erhai Lake which was so peaceful just gliding over the serene waters. The lake's water was a brilliant blue-green shade I've never seen before. We got to

look at traditional houses built on stilts along the shores and see fishermen going about their day.

On another trip, we went hiking at the breathtaking Cangshan Mountains right near Dali. The trails took us through lush green forests, past rushing waterfalls, and up to incredible viewpoints with sweeping vistas of the mountains, valleys, and Erhai Lake far below. I've never seen so much natural beauty packed into one place!

And you know what might be the best part about Dali? The food is OUT OF THIS WORLD delicious! Dali is famous for its Dai minority cuisine which has incredible flavors from all the fresh herbs and spices they use. My tastebuds were doing a happy dance with every bite!

Some of my favorite Dali dishes were the ninja chicken which is chicken chopped up and cooked with a secret sauce of like 20 different spices and herbs, the Dai flavor fish which is fresh river fish covered in a crispy fried coating flavored with dill and other yummy spices, and the Dai baba which is this addictive chewy rice snack made with peanuts, sesame, and brown sugar. The Dai minority people's food is just out of this world amazing. Literally every meal left me with the biggest smile on my face from how tasty and unique all the dishes were. My

parents had fun sampling the local Dali wines and beers too which went perfectly with the flavorful cuisine.

I could honestly go on and on about how awesome Dali is, but I'll stop here so I don't spoil all the surprises for you. Just take my word for it – Dali needs to be at the very top of your family's travel bucket list. Between the ancient sites, incredible nature, mind-blowing food, and overall beauty and peacefulness of the place, Dali is a dream destination.

I have such brilliant memories from my time in Dali – exploring the winding alleys, trying exotic snacks from street vendors, watching butterflies flutter around me at the springs, and just slowing down to take in the old-world charm. Dali worked its magic on me and my family and I'm already dreaming about going back some day.

If you want a vacation that feels like stepping into another world, go to Dali. You and your family won't be disappointed! Just don't be surprised if you never want to leave this enchanting little corner of China. Dali has a way of casting its spell on you. Trust me, I know from experience!
