Although most students would be unhappy if they found that they had failed an advanced maths course, they have actually learned a great deal about themselves. They know that they should not become engineers or physical scientists, and that they should not be good at accounting work. So failing can help a student to lead a much happier life if he or she draws the right conclusion from the failing. They may then decide on their aim and choose the kind of work they would like to do.

It is not enough to want to be a great violinist. You also have to like the hard and long training before you become one. If you would enjoy being a great violinist but hate the work, forget it.

“The third rule is to take a little exercise every day. I‟ve always taken a little every Why is Mr Gale able to live such a long life?

Cats are creatures of habit. They like to go to sleep about the same time every day

and for a certain length of time. They seem to have a natural clock inside then that tells them when to sleep.

Cats supplement their regular sleep with occasional cat naps. Some experts feel that humans could also benefit from this habit. Cat naps help to build up energy in the body. They are also a good way to overcome boredom! Since cats have moods similar to those of humans, some experts believe that people can improve their moods and attitudes by catnapping! When a Japanese friend of mine first visited Britain and first saw a British map of the world, he was very surprised by what he found. At first, the picture seemed familiar: in the middle of the map, there were two or three small but long red islands lying between an ocean and a continent. But something was wrong: land mass and ocean had changed places. It wasn‟t Japan he was looking at, it was the British Isles. Japan was out on the edge(边缘)somewhere.

Until that moment all the maps he had known had set Japan in the middle of the picture and had colored it red; yet when he got to Britain, he found that the country in the middle of the map was Britain and that is, too, was painted red. What my friend had found was that his country was no longer in its familiar place and he no longer knew where he was.

Our sense of ourselves and our place in the world may not, as my friend‟s experience suggests, come from anything real or actual, for no country is in the middle of the earth, except as a picture in the mind. A map is only a model in which we may set ourselves. It just helps us to feel that we know where we are.
