　　Leshan Giant Buddha is located in the southwest of Sichuan Province,surrounded by Minjiang River, Qingyi River and Dadu River, which arecollectively referred to as the three rivers of Leshan.

　　Its height is 71 meters; its shoulder is 24 meters; its ears are 7 meterslong, and each ear can penetrate two people; its eyes and mouth are 3.3 meterslong; its eyebrows and nose are 5.6 meters long. Surprisingly, the diameter ofits head is 10 meters, which is as high as a five story building! But itsfingers are 8.4 meters long, not to mention compared with the big Buddha, evencompared with the fingers of a big Buddha, you are very small. Its knee toinstep length is 28 meters, and its foot width is 8.5 meters. If people standnext to each other, each foot can stand more than 100 people! There are 1021 bunon the head of Leshan Giant Buddha. People say it: the mountain is a Buddha, theBuddha is a mountain.

　　The rock on both sides of Leshan Giant Buddha is called red sandstone,which is a kind of easily weathered rock. Why can Leshan Buddha be preserved for1200 years? It is located on the shady slope of the west of Lingyun, with densetrees and stable geological structure.

　　Leshan Buddha was built by a monk named Haitong. At that time, the MinjiangRiver was full of water, often drowning passers-by. As soon as monk Haitong hadthe heart to look down on it, he raised a huge sum of money to build the LeshanGiant Buddha, hoping that it could withstand the turbulent river. At that time,a rich man wanted to get this huge sum of money. When Haitong knew what hethought, he said to the rich man: I'd rather dig my eyes out than give you thismoney. Seeing that the rich man didn't believe it, he dug out his eyes with bothhands. The rich man was so scared that he gave up his mind. Later, Haitongcalled on many people to build Leshan Buddha. In this way, it took 90 years tobuild the Leshan Giant Buddha.
